Kenya
HOPE worldwide Canada has sent funds to HOPE worldwide Kenya in order to provide educational support to 50 children in primary schools and 25 in secondary schools in Nairobi. The children who benefited from this support were orphans and vulnerable children selected from various slums in Nairobi.
Many of the children who live in the sprawling slums of Nairobi are left as heads of families after the death of their parents due to rampant HIV/AIDS. Girls are most vulnerable to sexual abuse and many children have been infected or affected by the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The funds from HOPE worldwide Canada were used to pay school fees for the children at both
primary and secondary school level and levies to cover lunch meals served at schools.

From Tragedy to Victory
Philoise is 17 years old and the first born in a family of five children. Her father and mother died from HIV/AIDS related complications in 2015.
She was forced to move to Kamunyonge slums with her siblings to stay with their grandmother who is also HIV positive. Life became miserable but they were able to eat and sleep in peace.
As the eldest child in the family she was left to care for her younger siblings and her ailing grandmother at a tender age. She was forced to miss school many times to do house work to earn a living. In 2016, in her second year in high school, she was ordered to leave the school due to outstanding school fees.
With our funding from Canada, HOPE worldwide Kenya was able to pay for her secondary school. Philoisie was able to continue with high school and became one of the top three students in her class. She is confident of the future and dreams of being an engineer one day.
