Cheryl was overwhelmed with gratitude at the generosity of our donors. “These backpacks will have a great impact on the kids and give them the start they need.”

The backpacks and school supplies were donated at HOPE worldwide Canada's first school supplies drive by the Toronto Central chapter on August 7th. It was aptly called "Backpack Buddies."

The goal of this initiative was to provide 20 backpacks filled with school supplies and books to read for the kindergarten class of the First Nations School of Toronto.

On the drop-off day, seven volunteers set up a collection table in the lobby of the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Members of the Toronto Church were able to drop off their generous donations before they went in for their weekly church service. 63 backpacks and 2 large containers of school supplies were collected on that day. All of them were donated to the First Nation School of Toronto and local community centers.

As the event organizer, Claudia Quammie stated: “The church turned up and turned out."

We are grateful for the overwhelming generosity of members of the Toronto Church. Through their generosity HOPE worldwide Canada was able to meet the needs of the kindergarten class at the First Nation School for backpacks and school supplies. Children from highly vulnerable communities in the City of Toronto desperately need our help.

In addition, we also had a very generous donation of books from Indigo Yorkdale Store to the First Nation School of Toronto.

We are thankful to everyone who made a donation, Indigo Yorkdale Store, and all the volunteers in making the first year of the Backpack Buddies initiative a great success.

Here is the Thank You Letter from Cheryl MacDonald on behalf of the First Nations School of Toronto and Toronto District School Board.
